Sunday morning, 9:45, November 20th
Thrilled beyond words! No greater joy! That’s the best way I can describe it. Mark walked in my cell-cubicle smiling a few minutes ago. (Our cells here are clean, open cubicles in an open dorm with two men to a cube. It is a complete waste of money to keep us here! These men should be out working, not costing the taxpayers money.)
Mark said, “Well Kent, I read half of Daniel this morning. I’m gonna try to read the other half before our Bible study tonight. This has been so great learning the Bible!” I told him that was wonderful, and he headed back for his room for the 10 am weekend count.
Seeing the excitement on his face these last three days has been a thrill of which I never tire! When Mark first came here a few days ago, he looked like a calf looking at a new gate! Prison does that to folks. I know the feeling, and I always try to assist the new guys right away and give them a little tour, let them know it is going to be alright, explain to them how to get email and phone working, and make sure they understand how to get basic supplies like envelopes, dental floss, coffee, pen, paper etc. It’s a simple way I can minister to men who are hurting.
I also offered to make Mark one of my world famous (well…the guys here like them!) personalized name book markers. Mark said he would love one s-o-o-o-o-o, as he sat in my cube while I made the bookmarker (which takes about 2 minutes) I asked him about where he would spend eternity. That led to a great conversation and his accepting Christ as his Savior about 15 minutes later! There was a hunger in him for things of God right away!
Since then, He has come every night at 8:30 to our informal Bible discussion and has been like a sponge! This is all new to him. His sparse attendance at the Catholic Church over the last 50 years taught him almost zero about God’s Word.
S-o-o-o-o-o, to hear him walk in and say he has read half of Daniel is …..well, if you have never led a soul to Christ and watched them grow in the Lord you will never understand. You are missing the greatest joy on earth! John said, “I have no greater joy…” 3 John 4. ‘Ya really outta’ try it! I LOVE serving the Lord!
Still trying to get home though and I continue to file motions pro se.
See ya at the finish line!
